Hi Birders,
At the Oregon Garden today there were at least 5 WESTERN TANAGERS, 1 FEMALE PURPLE FINCH, a GREEN HERON, 2 WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS, many RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS, loads of VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS, 1 FOY HOUSE WREN, and one parent AMERICAN COOT with one chick.
There is a pair of WHITE-BREASTED NUTHATCHES nesting in one of my birdhouses. Quite often when the male nuthatch comes to the house to feed the female he first whacks or rubs the item in his beak back and forth on the house or the tree the house is hung on. Does anyone know why the nuthatch is doing this?
There are still a good number of WESTERN TANAGERS in my back yard.
