White Pelicans for Benton Co. When I was there are at 2:00PM (Sunday) there were 13 carefully counted pelicans present. This was a higher count than an of the prior reports, unless I missed one. There was also a small group of immature Yellow-headed Blackbirds (4-5 birds I think) giving their distinctive chatter call from the area with the dead trees on the w. side of the marsh. Other sightings at Cabell this morning: Band-tailed Pigeon sitting on top of deciduous tree west of the marsh Common Yellowthroats 3 Great Blue Herons N Harrier pair 4 Wood Duck Canada Goose Barn Swallow Mallards Possibly N Shoveler youngsters with Mother. They had shoveler type black bills, black legs, a dark line thru the eye and dark crown. They were dabbling in the water together. The bills were like small shoveler size that one see on the cinnamon teal. They were trying to fly very short distances and I could see light blue speculum. The mother looked more like a NOSH than female CITE. With ducks in eclipse it was hard to ID. It was fun practicing identifying them. West of Prairie Overlook: Western Kingbird along the road Headquarters: Cooper's Hawk It was a fun visit to Finley.
