I'm vacationing in Missoula, Montana right now and there are lots of birds that are not seen in
the Willamette Valley regularly.

These include:

Pygmy Nuthatch
White-breasted Nuthatch (Interior West subspecies)
Clark's Nutcracker
Black-billed Magpie

Other more common species found in the Willamette Valley too include:
Wild Turkey
Osprey
Evening Grosbeak
and Cedar Waxwing

Apparently, the Nutcrackers come down into the valley in the Spring and early Fall, then retreat
to higher elevations at other times of the year. The fires in the area may also contribute to the
array of birds seen right now.

Happy Birding,

Josh Gentry
